Regional Enoteca of Umbria

The Regional Enoteca of Umbria, falling under the Province of Terni and situated in the medieval district of Orvieto, is hosted in the cellars of the former Convent of San Giovanni, with premises excavated in the volcanic rock and dating back to Etruscan times.
 
In the evocative maze of ancient tunnels, the Enoteca, or Wine Library, collects and displays the wines of the most important producers of the region, with an ample variety of Docg, Doc and Igt wines to be tasted and appreciated.

The Enoteca shares with Il Palazzo del Gustothe purpose to boost enogastronomic tourism, to valorize Umbria's wines and to support the promo-commercialization of the regional wineries that now, in these  premises rich of evidences of the past, thanks to a computerized system and a touch screen, can "dialogue" with visitors, providing a meaningful look at the Umbrian wine world.

The guided tour of the Enoteca gives visitors a chance to discover the secret history of Orvieto as told in the culture of its wine and typical products, learning about the mysterious Oinarèa, the town where wine flows, whose fame reached Greece in the age of Aristotele and about medieval, renaissance and modern Orvieto.
